こにちは!
This is my last post of my first semester of college and first semester of learning Japanese. It has gone by so fast! While Japanese class has definitely been a challenge, I am glad I took it and can't wait for next semester!
大学は いそがしくて、たのしです。日本のじゅぎょうは むずかしです。でも、たのしです。ふせ先生は いい先生です!
I am so impressed by everything that I have learned from this class, including Hiragana, Katakana, a little Kanji, various vocab, and even be able to carry out short conversations.

This week we learned how to describe daily activities, so hear is my typical day!
はちじに おきます。あさ じゆぎようが あります。くじにじゅうごふんに にほんごの じゅぎようが あります。じゅういちじさんじゅうに すうがくの じゅぎようが あります。じゅうにじはんに ひるごはんを たべます。しゅくだいを します。ろくじに ばんごはんを たべます。としょかんで べんきょします。ばん しやわを あびます。わたしは おふろに はいりません。じゅうじに ねます。

こんにちわ
This week we attended a lecture by はまだせんせい about the rebuilding of the Catholic school that she worked at after its destruction in the bombing of Nagasaki. It was extremely interesting to hear her story from first hand account of what happened and how it affected her and her community. We always hear about the war and bombings, but never of the aftermath in rebuilding. I also found the research that はまだせんせい was doing about Bishop O'Hara, his reasons for funding the rebuilding, and his connection with Notre Dame extremely interesting. I hope that the lecture tomorrow will be equally as intriguing and informative as this one!
In the classroom this week, we had two tests: Hiragana and chapter 2. Now we are beginning chapter 3 and learning about daily routines. As for now, it is にちようび ごごじゅうにじゅうさん。I think that I have finally mastered the Hiragana characters, now onto Katakana! I still have trouble with listening and speaking Japanese, but I am getting better each day.

This week we have begun to learn basic conversation with greetings and introductions. It is exciting to be able to make conversation fully in Japanese, even if it is short and limited. Learning Japanese has definitely been a challenge and a lot of hard work. I still have difficulty recognizing Hiragana and with pronunciation. However, I improve each day as I continue to practice.

初めましてハんですどうぞよろしく。
Hi everyone!
My name is Emily Han, and I have just started my freshmen year here at Notre Dame. I am from Niles, Michigan, which is about twenty minutes away from the South Bend area. I am excited to learn all about the Japanese language and culture through this class. My grandma grew up in Japan, making me a quarter Japanese. She has family over there and is also planning on taking my mom and I on a three generational trip to Japan next summer. Thus, I would love to be able to communicate on my trip and understand as much as I can about their language and culture. Hopefully, I will be able to switch this blog into Japanese as the semester goes on and see my progress throughout.
